St. Louis Chamber Chorus - Concert 1: Today, A Rude Brief Recitative
Sunday, Sep 30, 2012 3:00p
Second Baptist Church of St. Louis
St Louis,
MO
The title phrase is by Walt Whitman, and his words never sounded as bracing as in Roy Harris's "Symphony for Voices". It caps the St. Louis Chamber Chorus's opening concert, a program of all-American music. Reaching back to our colonial past and the music of William Billings, through the Romantic writing of Dudley Buck and settlers' hymns collected by Virgil Thomson, it brings listeners up to the gripping polyphony of modernists Samuel Barber and William Schuman.

OMG, the Post Dispatch calendar included an event that was not heavy metal Bible school or an occasion for deep frying a Twinkie. What is the world coming to?
