Spring Awakening
The modern folk-infused rock adaptation of Frank Wedekind's 19th century expressionist play portrays a group of young students coming of age in an uncomprehending world. Banned when first introduced, this controversial
classic is still provocative as a contemporary musical in its uncompromising view of teenage angst and exhilaration. Winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, Spring Awakening is a celebration of the rebellious imperatives of youth.

SPRING AWAKENING takes its inspiration from one of literature’s most controversial masterpieces – a work so daring in its depiction of teenage self-discovery, it was banned from the stage and not performed in its complete form in English for nearly 100 years....
We went to see the play Spring Awakening last night. It was a complete waste of time, with ZERO entertainment value. The screen play appeared to be written by a teenage juvenile delinquent while sexually aroused. The plot was the most sophomoric, imbecilic, asinine and idiotic vomiting of thought I have ever witnessed. It brings shame on the Fox Theater to have such an unentertaining play performed at their establishment. I would hope they would reject this kind of TRASH in the future.

Stray Dog Theatre's artistic director, Gary F. Bell, typically opens shows with a few words to the audience. On Thursday night, he reminded everyone that this was a big occasion: the opening of Stray Dog's 10th season. They have been 10 smart years, studded with memorable productions of “Agnes of God,” “You Can't Take It With You,” “Suddenly Last Summer,” “Into the Woods” and — in just the last season — “Urinetown: The Musical,” a steampunk treatment of “Tommy” and both parts of Tony Kushner's towering “Angels in America.”
