When hard times hit Swallow Falls, its townspeople can only afford to eat sardines. Flint Lockwood, a failed inventor, thinks he has the answer to the town's crisis. He builds a machine that converts water into food, and becomes a local hero when tasty treats fall from the sky like rain. But when the machine spins out of control and threatens to bury the whole world under giant mounds of food, Flint finds he may have bitten off more than he can chew.

I'll admit, the first trailer I saw for this film did not impress me. Then I saw the second and found myself laughing. So, I began to anticipate its release. Me, a male of almost 30, and my father, in his 50's, went in saw the film on opening weekend. Now both of us are huge fans of the new 3D technology and of course we donned our thick black 3D glasses with pride. And boy did we get our money's worth. The film is not only a delight to watch, the content is zany and filled with charm and humor. I was not familiar with the original book so to me the story was fresh and new. We found ourselves laughing consistently and the wit of the film was undeniable. I could not rave enough about the film. Especially in a year where almost every movie has been, to say the least, a disappointment. It was a refreshing family adventure that could be enjoyed by everyone. And the 3D was outstanding. One of the best films made to date with the technology. Unfortunately with the re-release of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 it is hard to find it showing in 3D in St. Louis but if you can, I would recommend paying the extra 2 or 3 dollars a ticket because it's worth the ride. In conclusion, if you like to laugh, love smart writing and a cast of lovable characters by all means treat yourself to Cloudy With a Chance for Meatballs in 3D.

In some places, it rains cats and dogs. But in Chewandswallow, it's corn and hot dogs.
"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs," based on the children's book by Judi and Ron Barrett, is one of the most visually creative movies of the year. The film combines a pinch of morality with a healthy dose of humor to produce a movie that's entertaining for everyone. (Full review)
