Clara was a slave who was born in Virginia, sold twice, and didn't get her freedom until she was 56 years old. On the day of the second sale, her husband and children were sold to different masters and of course she lost track of them. For the next fifty years it was her single-minded quest to find them, a journey that took her to the gold rush days of Colorado. Through all of this, she was known for her generosity and kindness
