Stories ripped from the headlines, are more intriguing and settings more evocative when credible. Characters, be they gangster, veteran, or faerie benefit from research. Methods vary: Internet searches, visiting historic sites, and personal interviews all lend weight to your work. Even a writer's personal history and culture are valuable resources, though some things are best left to a coroner's report. Truth may be stranger than fiction, but fiction can't live without it. Make it work for you!
